J’vala Tirasch, Senior Doctor and Owner

J’vala began his healing apprenticeship at age 12 and has been providing patient care for over a decade. He continued working with his mentor, J’ahma Tia, at the Pearl Clinic in Ul’dah for several years after completing his apprenticeship before moving to Kugane to open the Valerian Clinic.J’vala is a fully-trained healer with competency in multiple areas: routine care, basic surgery, illness, injury, and chronic conditions. He leverages both aetheric and non-aetheric forms of care as appropriate to best meet his patients’ needs. J’vala specializes in treating chronic conditions through aetheric massage. He provides ongoing treatment for chronic ailments in addition to his routine work with walk-in patients. Wealthier patients have the option of requesting at-home care.(( J’vala is a player character. ))

Minako Hayawa, Lead Doctor (Shirogane)

Although raised in the Confederacy, Minako joined the Doman Liberation Front soon after it formed and spent many years aiding its efforts both in combat and as a medic. Now that the war has come to a conclusion and Doma is free, Minako has joined the staff of the Valerian Clinic to continue providing medical care in a far more relaxed environment. She considers this a kind of semi-retirement after her many years of service.Minako’s terse manner belies a firm competency in the healing arts. Her deft hands serve her well in both alchemy and minor surgical care. She uses her healing magic sparingly but effectively. Her bedside manner might need improvement, but she otherwise gives her patients no cause for complaint.(( Minako is a non-player character. ))

Bertran Hanelaut, Lead Doctor (Ishgard)

After many years providing medical care in the field during the Dragonsong War, Bertran temporarily joined the staff at Saint Vaindreau's Grace. Gyotur, Associate Doctor (Kugane and Ishgard)

He enjoys the quiet time, generally using it to focus on reading to further broaden his knowledge.(( Gyotur is a non-player character. ))

Ojie Arborum, Medic/Night Caretaker (Kugane)

Ojie lives at the Kugane clinic, and likes sleeping during the mornings. These two things combined makes the experienced alchemist, medic and sage a great addition to the team. Moving into civilization from the forests has been a bit of an adjustment, and his laid-back personality has led many to question his skills. While he's far from classically trained, his old job as the clan's medical professional means he's pretty good at solving whatever problems show up in the middle of the night.(( Ojie is a player character. ))

Ophilia Alzatsi, Therapist Intern (Kugane)

Coming from the distant isle of Sharlayan, Ophilia grew up a musical prodigy, mastering a number of instruments before even entering her teens. She spent much of her youth playing in the Sharlayan Scholar's Orchestra as well as singing in the Chamber Choir- eventually reaching second seat violin in the former. However, a change of heart at age 18 led to her studying medical disciplines instead; desiring to see mental health studied and embraced as intensely as physical health. Now interning at the Valerian Clinic, Ophilia utilizes a number of different theraputical techniques to help with a variety of mental health issues, as well as basic counseling. Her specialty is music therapy- using Bardic techniques to help patients express and empower themselves in a healthy manner.(( Ophilia is a player character. ))

Legion Kheerin, Apprentice Healer (Kugane)

Possessing a natural talent for healing, Legion first took to the art out of necessity while traveling around Othard with her father. Cobbling together knowledge from chirurgeons encountered upon the road, the Au Ra's skill in combat healing flourished, but her lack of formal education made her reliant upon Steppe remedies to treat more mundane ailments. After joining Drakenshield, J'vala Tia offered to apprentice Legion, providing the education she'd long craved. Though she currently relies largely on aetheric mending and some field triage skills, under J'vala's tutelage, her understanding of long-term care is slowly but steadily deepening.(( Legion is a player character. ))

Batu Kahkol, Apprentice Healer (Kugane)

Batu recently moved to Kugane from the Azim Steppe to begin his apprenticeship under J’vala. His tribe’s settlement having recently been destroyed by the Buduga tribe, sixteen-year-old Batu is eager to start a new life helping others. He came into his apprenticeship with a basic knowledge of traditional Steppe remedies.Uncharacteristically soft-spoken for a Xaela, Batu appears to be a thoughtful and considerate young man. He pays close attention to the other healers and assists them with their tasks.(( Batu is a non-player character. ))

Stovoj Tirasch, Caretaker (Kugane and Ishgard)

While Stovoj isn't at either clinic every day, he drops in often enough (usually with his husband J'vala) to make sure that the facilities are up to the highest standards of a house of healing. He's also on call to help move any particularly large patients who might otherwise give the staff trouble. He has a kind, boisterous demeanor and is well liked by clinicians and patients alike.(( Stovoj is a player character. ))

Clinic Facilities

Entrance. A bell rings when the clinic's door is opened, alerting staff that there's a new visitor. The entrance area has space on the wall for informational postings from the community, and visitors are also welcome to sign into the guest book. Adjacent to the entrance is the waiting area (seen in the lower part of the picture), the exam room (through the curtain pictured at the right), and the patient recovery area (off camera to the right).

Waiting area. The clinic has comfortable seating and often provides pastries or other snacks to enjoy while patients are waiting. A small collection of toys are provided for younger children, as well as some pillows if they wish to sit on the floor to play. Off camera to the left is a bookcase staircase leading up into the loft.

Exam room. The exam room has seating in case a patient is accompanied by loved ones. Children are allowed to draw on the chalkboard, which is also used when J'vala needs to illustrate topics for a patient. Pre-mixed potions are stocked for the most common ailments.During exams, the attending healer will use a remote to turn on a magitek sound dampening system.
Four nouliths are mounted at the upper corners of the room (at the height of the partitions). When activated, they come to life with a gentle green glow and a hum. A green energy ripples through the air and forms a cube-like enclosure about the space, and then it turns transparent and seems to vanish. Sound is muffled such that patients are now afforded privacy while speaking. The barrier can be walked through while it's active, though it gives a bit of resistance when passing through it.

Recovery area. The clinic has six beds for patients who require recovery under a healer's supervision. Two of the beds are available in the front part of the clinic, which allows for less isolation from the daily activities of the clinic. The back parts of the clinic are accessed through the doors pictured at the left. The kitchen area is opposite of the beds, and the entry and waiting areas are off camera through a curtain to the right.

Kitchen. The clinic has a kitchen area where staff can prepare meals for themselves or their patients. This is also where staff can wash their hands and sanitize equipment. The ladder leads up to the loft.

Doors to the back. The back portion of the clinic has four additional patient beds that provide a quieter recovery area. The clinic's restroom is also in the back, as are sleeping quarters for J'vala and Batu and additional storage.(( These areas are not accessible in-game due to the limited space available in apartments. ))

Study area. Located in the loft adjacent to the waiting area and above the patient beds, the clinic has a well-stocked library with a wide range of medical texts. Adjacent to the library is J'vala's desk, suitable for study and paperwork. Some storage shelves are seen to the left, and beyond them off camera is the alchemy lab.(( Although not present in-game due to item count limitations, the loft has a railing to prevent accidents. ))

Alchemy lab. Located in the loft above the kitchen, the alchemy lab is stocked with a wide range of ingredients. The clinic staff mixes many of their own potions, especially for less common ailments.
